4 Babies + 4 Cakes = Messy Fun — 03/11/2016

4 Babies + 4 Cakes = Messy Fun

I was asked to do a cake smash with a difference last weekend. So what’s a cake smash I hear you ask? A cake smash is usually a celebration of a baby’s first birthday. It’s generally the first time they have seen or tasted cake so it can make for a lot of fun and laughs as you capture the baby’s reaction to it. Usually a cake smash is one baby and a cake however this cake smash was a little different with 4 babies and 4 cakes. The children were delightful and at first a little apprehensive but they soon got the hang of it.

I photographed them all separately to begin with. Some loved it while others weren’t quite sure about getting messy

I then placed them all together for group shots…not an easy task  I have to say as some of them wanted to crawl away but the mums were fabulous and kept the kids on task.

Then one poor little man became upset and I was to learn later that he had been bitten by a bull ant.

The remaining bubs started to get the hang of it and began having some fun.

Sharing is caring …..until you are bitten lol

I would love to hear your suggestions on a  caption for this last pic. My daughter said” keep your hands off my man you hussy!”

I loved being a part of this and the bubs were brilliant and funny. If you would like your baby or babies photographed please contact me via my website wwwbethwodephotography.com.au

Sunflowers Galore — 01/03/2016

Sunflowers Galore

My friend Lisa Hawkins  https://www.flickr.com/photos/80616930@N02/ and I headed out to Allora a few weeks ago in search of sunflowers only to find that we were too early and that they had only just been planted.  Since then, we had heard that they were blooming at Nobby on the Darling Downs so we jumped in the car and headed out there on New Years Day.

We had the most stunning day with the bluest of skies and lots of wispy clouds around. Once we arrived we were greeted by the most amazingly healthy sunflowers the size of dinner plates. This field of sunflowers went on for as far as the eye could see. I just loved the contrast of colours – from the red of the earth to the green and gold of the crop to the blue of the sky.

We stayed on for sunset, the light as the sun went down was beautiful.

We headed home happy and tired and I couldn’t wait to get home to process the images.

Misty Mount Mee — 11/28/2015

Misty Mount Mee

My friend Lisa (https://www.instagram.com/lisahawkinsphotography/) and I headed out last week for a little Sunday afternoon drive and were super excited when we arrived at the top of Mount Mee near Kilcoy to find thick fog covering the entire top of the mountain. It was very surreal and it was wonderful.

The first thing we did of course was to get some shots and I was really lucky to capture these little Citroen 2CV’s out on a little car rally for the day.

We then drive on a little further and stopped to photograph countless trees, all looking very haunting in the mist. This cow was very intrigued and inquisitive  as to what we were doing.

As we headed home down the mountain the weather suddenly cleared, it was as if the mist and fog never existed. It was an afternoon that I will remember for a long time. It was magical and I loved every minute.

Lisa, thank for your company I had the best afternoon!

Chasing Snow — 08/07/2015

Chasing Snow

I have only ever seen snow once in my life and that was 25 years ago, so when it was predicted to fall on the northern tablelands of NSW I decided to get in my car and see this snow event for myself

After driving all day I spent my first night in Walcha. It was here that I learned that the tiny town Nowendoc had a lot of snow earlier in the week so I thought that this might be a good place to head to the next day.

My first destination the next morning was Apsley Falls 20 kms out of town. I am so pleased that I went, they were stunning.

From here I headed to Nowendoc but decided to go off the beaten track to get there. After slipping and sliding for 37kms on a wet dirt road that lead me through mountainous terrain I was relieved to eventually arrive back onto Thunderbolt’s Way. If you ever get the opportunity to do the drive along Thunderbolt’s Way you won’t be disappointed. It is very picturesque and leads you through so many pretty little towns. I highly recommend it.

Once back on this road I was excited when it began to snow heavily, it was blizzard like and it was wonderful! I pulled the car over and got out and did a happy dance. People young and old were revelling in it, they were ecstatic and so was I – they were throwing snowballs and making snowmen and having lots of fun. Then to my surprise and excitement a man on horseback came galloping past with his dogs in tow, I was so happy just to be there to capture the moment.

Later that day I headed north to Uralla where I was meeting up with my friend Lisa Hawkins We were going to photograph Gostwyck Chapel together the next morning.

After a tiring day of driving it was nice to be staying somewhere relaxing and comforting. Lisa had booked us into Aurelia’s Farm Stay and I have to say that once you have stayed here you really won’t want to stay anywhere else in Uralla. It’s the little touches that you remember, the décor is lovely and owner Tara makes her own delicious  muesli, yummy Salted Peanut Caramel & cappuccino nougat as well as fruit cakes greeting cards and ribbons.

The next morning we jumped into Lisa’s car and drove to the chapel, very aware of the dangers of black ice. Once we got there we found several brave & frozen photographers who had slept in their cars overnight. They too were looking for that perfect shot. I have to say that the chapel looked stunning in white and I had to keep pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

After leaving the chapel we drove through some of the local streets trying to get as many shots as we could of this magical winter wonderland before the rain began to fall and melt the snow away.

There was one more stop to make on the way home – Ben-Lomond. This place is one of the coldest on the Tablelands and we had heard that there was plenty of snow. Unfortunately by the time we arrived late in the afternoon most of it was gone.

I had an awesome time, met some lovely people and got some great shots. Thank you Lisa for your company, we had a lot of fun and you were a terrific travelling companion.

Introduction

Hello friends, welcome to my blog page

Hello Friends

Welcome to my blog page where I hope to share all sorts of things with you, from the gear that I use to the way that I shoot and to the places that I photograph.

I live in Redland City east of Brisbane, its lovingly known as the Redlands and is so picturesque and beautiful. It’s situated on the east coast of Queensland so many of my shots are seascapes. My favourite locations to shoot in the Redlands are Cleveland, Wellington Point, Redland Bay, Victoria Point and the stunningly beautiful North Stradbroke Island.

My photography is not limited to where I live and am frequently out and about in South East Queensland & New South Wales showcasing this fabulous country that we live in. I love nothing more than getting in the car and just driving, finding little off the beaten track spots to shoot. I particularly love shooting sunrises and sunsets where Mother Nature is at her best showing her glorious colours for everyone to see.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope that you continue to follow me in my photographic journey.
